All these treasures are still heritage of the city today thanks to the fact that Palazzo Davanzati was spared from the destruction of the old center at the end of the 19th century. In 1904 it was bought by antiquarian Elia Volpi, who had it restored, becoming a prestigious showcase for his business.
This palace represents a special bridge to the Middle Ages: its faux tapestries painted in geometric patterns are the symbol of the period's industriousness. Memorable are the four rooms with painted walls: the Chamber of the Peacocks, the Chamber of the Parrots, Chamber of the Fangs, and the Chamber of the Castellana of Vergy.
