Enter the inner sanctum of Kyoto’s textile heritage in a private weaving experience led by a master of Nishikiori—Japan’s most regal brocade, cherished by emperors and nobles for over a millennium.

Hosted within the working studio of Kōhō Tatsumura, a renowned textile artist, this rare opportunity offers hands-on insight into three historic weaving techniques: hira (flat weave), aya (twill weave), and takahata (brocade weave).
You’ll not only witness but also feel the delicate differences between them as you touch, thread, and observe the loom in motion.

After learning the techniques and history behind these majestic textiles, you’ll receive a small framed brocade as a keepsake—a 10cm x 10cm piece in flat weave, specially woven by the artisan for you.
An optional upgrade to a larger 18cm framed version is also available, perfect as a more substantial gift or display piece.

The experience concludes with a quiet moment to view original works and materials from the imperial archives, rarely accessible to the public.
