Description
With its imposing fortifications and bastions, amazing baroque palaces, marvellous churches, gorgeous gardens, and beautiful architecture ranging from mid-16th century baroque to modernism, Valletta is undoubtedly one of the most extraordinary and charming cities you will ever visit.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site in its entirety and with a history spanning almost 5 centuries, Malta’s capital city, is considered a stunning open-air museum! built by the Order of the Knights of St. John in 1566, more than 400 years ago, it is a prime example of the unique cultural and architectural legacy left by the Order of the Knights of St. John after having ruled over the islands for 268 years.
But Valletta is not only architecture and history… apart from being a dynamic, commercial, and cultural hub, it is also the administrative heart of Malta, hosting various important institutions and administrative buildings, such as the Parliament of Malta, the Courts of Justice, the Auberge de Castille (which houses the office of the Prime Minister), the Malta Stock Exchange, the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise & Industry and many more.
During the day the city is bustling with activity, visited by thousands of people, locals, and tourists alike, some on their way to their workplace, some for shopping or to have a meal at one of the many delightful restaurants located in the city, others to simply have a stroll in the city or to learn about its fascinating history.
But what happens when the day is almost over, when just about everyone withdraws from the city and darkness sets in?
This city has throughout the centuries witnessed death, murders, executions, and many other disturbing moments, so it is perhaps not surprising that there are so many ghost stories told about Valletta.
