Experience the ultimate Arctic wildlife safari with our Big Whales and Puffins RIB Boat Tour. Departing from Húsavík, the undisputed “Whale Capital of Iceland,” this high-speed expedition is designed to get you closer to nature in less time. Feel the spray of the North Atlantic as we zip across Skjálfandi Bay to encounter massive cetaceans and visit one of Iceland’s most bustling puffin colonies—all from the comfort of a specialized, small-group vessel.
High-Speed Wildlife Sightings: Our agile RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) allows us to cover vast distances quickly, maximizing your chances of finding Humpbacks, Blue whales, and Minke whales.
Puffin Island (Lundey) Visit: Sail to the sheer cliffs of Lundey, home to thousands of Atlantic Puffins during the summer breeding season.
Small-Group Exclusivity: With a maximum of 12 passengers, you are guaranteed a front-row seat and a personalized experience with no crowds.
Geological Wonders: Cruise past the Tjörnes Peninsula, famous for its ancient fossil layers dating back over two million years.
Diverse Marine Life: Search for more than 10 different species, including acrobatic dolphins and shy harbor porpoises.
Expert Guides & Gear: Learn from professional whale-watching specialists and stay warm in our high-quality thermal suits and safety gear.
The Launch from Húsavík Your adventure begins at Húsavík Harbor, where you’ll suit up in professional-grade thermal overalls. After a safety briefing, your expert captain will power up the RIB boat and head into the nutrient-rich waters of Skjálfandi Bay.
Puffin Island & Ancient Cliffs During the summer months, our first stop is Lundey (Puffin Island). The RIB’s shallow draft allows us to get incredibly close to the cliffs where these “clowns of the sea” nest. We’ll also cruise along the Tjörnes Peninsula, where you can see the visible layers of Earth’s history in the cliffside fossils.
Searching for the Giants Next, we utilize the boat’s speed to find the “Big Whales.” Whether it’s a breaching Humpback or a massive Blue whale, the RIB boat provides a low-profile, immersive perspective that makes you feel part of the ocean. With only 12 people on board, you’ll have a 360-degree view for that perfect photo without anyone blocking your shot.
Duration: Approx. 2 Hours.
Season: April – October.
Puffin Season Note: Puffins are typically seen from April 15th to August 15th. Outside of these dates, the tour focuses exclusively on Big Whales, exploring deeper into the bay for marine life.
Included: Thermal suits, life jackets, professional guide, and RIB boat tour.
What to Bring: Warm under-layers, a hat, gloves, and a camera.
Unlike traditional oak boats, the RIB boat offers a “safari-style” experience. Its speed allows us to reach whales that are miles away in a fraction of the time, while its small size ensures a quiet, respectful, and incredibly personal encounter with Iceland’s marine giants. It is the best choice for photographers and adventure seekers wanting the most efficient wildlife tour in Húsavík.
