Description
Your experience begins with a hotel pick-up by our professional driver, followed by a scenic drive to Stone Town’s Forodhani area. From here, you’ll board a local boat and enjoy a 20-minute ride across the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean to Prison Island (Changuu Island).
Upon arrival, explore the island with a knowledgeable local guide who will share the fascinating history of Prison Island, once used as a quarantine station during the colonial era. Walk through the historic prison ruins and learn about Zanzibar’s past in a relaxed and informative way.
The highlight of the tour is a visit to the Aldabra giant tortoise sanctuary. These impressive creatures are among the largest tortoises in the world, weighing up to 200 kg, and are also known for their extraordinary longevity—the oldest tortoise is over 196 years old. Learn about their journey from the Seychelles to Zanzibar, their conservation, and enjoy the opportunity to take memorable photos.
You’ll also spot the island’s beautiful peacocks, famous for their large, colorful feathers—symbols of beauty, royalty, and good fortune. Interact with these graceful birds and capture stunning pictures.
After enjoying the peaceful island atmosphere, the tour concludes with a boat ride back to Stone Town and a comfortable transfer to your hotel, marking the end of a memorable half-day experience.
